What are the most popular lip injections?

In the search for a more youthful appearance, lip injections have rapidly grown in popularity over the past few years. However, the best dermal filler material for this procedure is yet to be determined. The most popular lip injections include Hyaluronic acid (HA), as worldwide usage has proven the safety and success of these fillers. Hyaluronic acid is naturally occuring in the skin but decreases as we age, which affects the receiving of nutrients, hydration and the cushioning of the skin. Juvederm, Restylane, Teosyal Kiss, and Volbella are some of the most popular HA cosmetic fillers that patients receive when getting a lip augmentation. All of the listed are also FDA approved.

Juvederm HA filler is known as the standard and, according to Kylie Jenner’s cosmetic surgeon, her filler of choice. Juvederm can also be used in the nose or to eliminate fine lines or wrinkles. Restylane can be used for wrinkle treatment as well. It’s rumored that Khloe Kardashian and Miley Cyrus have used Restylane fillers as well for their lips.

When looking for more long-term results, Teosyal Kiss lasts longer than most other injectables and is believed to be more comfortable for patients that receive it. It also has the benefit of hydrating the lips and creating a smoother appearance. Volbella is a safe option for HA fillers, as it is a blend of hyaluronic acids that can create a more subtle look that can last up to a year.

The dermal filler, Sculptra, is another popular lip injection that works to help the body produce more collagen and create a fuller look. This is not as popular of a method, as the collagen in the body can take from 4-6 weeks to be produced. It does, however, create a more natural transformation that is desired by some. Another lip injection procedure that is rising in popularity is the lip flip procedure of injecting Botox into the top lip so it relaxes and flips outward giving a fuller appearance. The lip flip procedure requires a lot more maintenance and only lasts for a few weeks at a time.

People tend to prefer HA fillers as they give immediate results, are easier to control in the final volume of the lips and can last up to one year depending which filler is used.Hyaluronic acid fillers are also safer to get, just in case you end up not loving the look. An enzyme can be injected to break down the HA and bring the lips back down to their original size within a few days. Though these are great, temporary options, if you’re looking for a more permanent fix, then a lip lift may better suit you. As always, consult your doctor and be sure you understand the expectations and outcomes that come with any procedure.
