PRP Facial Frequently Asked Questions
What actually happens during a PRP facial?
A small amount of blood gets drawn, same as a standard lab draw. It goes into a centrifuge that spins it down and separates out the platelet-rich plasma from everything else. That concentrated plasma contains growth factors your skin already recognizes and responds to. Before it gets applied, a derma roller with microneedles is passed over the face to create micro channels in the skin. Those tiny openings let the PRP absorb deeper than it ever could sitting on the surface. That combination is what drives the results.
Is this actually safe?
The material being injected is yours. Your blood, processed and returned to your skin. There is nothing synthetic involved, which eliminates the usual concerns around allergic reaction or rejection. The treatment has a long track record in both cosmetic and medical settings. Safe is a fair word for it.
The needle thing. How bad is it?
Numbing cream goes on first. Once that kicks in, the microneedling part feels like a light vibration with some pressure. Most people are surprised by how manageable it is. The PRP application after that involves nothing more than the plasma being massaged into the skin.
I keep reading about results taking months. What actually shows up right away?
The skin looks better fairly quickly after treatment because new blood vessel formation improves color and overall radiance within a few days. That part is real and immediate. But the deeper work, the collagen remodeling and cellular regeneration, that unfolds over two to three months. What you see at month three is a different result than what you see at day three. Both are real, just different stages of the same process.
How long do results last?
Somewhere between one and two years for most patients, depending on how many sessions were completed and how well the skin responds. One session gives you a result. A series of three spaced four to six weeks apart gives you a meaningfully better one that holds longer.
Can I combine this with other treatments?
PRP pairs well with hyaluronic acid fillers when volume and surface quality are both being addressed. It also complements HydraFacial and other skin treatments at Virtual Skin Spa. The right combination depends on what you are actually trying to achieve, which is what the consultation figures out.
Who should not get a PRP facial?
Patients with certain blood disorders, active skin infections in the treatment area, or those on blood thinners are typically not candidates. Pregnancy rules it out as well. Health history gets reviewed at the consultation before anything is recommended.
What does recovery look like?
Redness and mild swelling for the first day or two. Some light pinpoint bruising from the microneedling that clears within a few days. Most patients go back to their normal routine the day after treatment. It is not a procedure that requires significant planning around recovery.
